Four details, four questions
Resolution describes picture dimensions. Compression affects how that picture is delivered. HDR concerns brightness and colour presentation. Audio tracks determine what you hear. A single HD badge does not answer all four questions.
Choose for the screen
A phone and a large television do not make identical demands. Prioritise a stable picture, readable subtitles and clear dialogue. Check the quality offered by the actual service and edition, not by the promotional artwork on a catalog card.
When the picture is soft
Give the stream time to settle, inspect the player’s quality setting and check your connection. A player that adapts to changing conditions may briefly reduce detail. If the image stays poor, compare another title on the same service before changing unrelated television settings.
When the picture is dark
Check the selected picture mode and the viewing service’s guidance for your device. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether it helped. Netflix’s video-quality help describes its own HD, 4K and HDR requirements; other services have their own requirements.
Source and container labels
WEB-DL and Blu-ray are source descriptions, while MKV is a container. Neither proves a particular language track or a suitable copy for your device. Use the offered edition’s details to complete the picture.
